5 Reasons Why Noosa Should Be Your Next Getaway
Clustered around the trend-setting cafe strip of Hastings Street, Noosa has established itself as one of the Sunshine Coast’s most popular holiday destinations. It boasts boutique shopping, excellent restaurants and a plethora of family-friendly attractions for an active getaway. While there are a myriad of reasons why Noosa should be your next holiday destination, here are five of our favorites.
1. Get Up Close To Wildlife At Australia Zoo
Made famous by Steve Irwin, Australia Zoo is one of the country’s premier wildlife parks and lies near the Glass House Mountains, just an hour’s drive from Noosa. It’s renowned for its Crocoseum where you can see these powerful creatures in action, as well as a walkthrough where you can cuddle koalas. Witness Sumatran and Bengal tigers at the Tiger Temple, then admire the Komodo dragons, red pandas and Burmese pythons at the Southeast Asian Precinct before soaking up the views across the park from Bindi’s Island.
2. Stretch Your Legs In Noosa National Park
Just a stone’s throw from Hastings Street, Noosa National Park sprawls to the east of Noosa’s Main Beach. Its walking trails offer stunning views across the Pacific Coast and access to picture-perfect coves while taking in shaded tracts of eucalypt forest, pandanus palms and wallum heaths. It’s renowned for its sightings of koalas sleeping high up in the trees above, as well as being home to eastern ground parrots, glossy black cockatoos and crimson rosellas. Keep your eyes peeled for humpback whales migrating along the coast, together with surfers riding the long offshore breaks.
3. Get Your Thrills At Aussie World
If you’re traveling with kids, then spending a day at Aussie World is a “must”. Home to the Aussie icon that is the Ettamogah Pub, it lies a 45-minute drive south of Noosa along the Bruce Highway. In addition to its cartoonish-pub, the complex boasts a range of rides and attractions for all ages, including the Wild Mouse Rollercoaster, The Plunge log flume ride and a beautifully restored 1927 Carousel. There’s also a good selection of eateries and shops selling Sunshine Coast-inspired souvenirs.
4. Explore The Local Markets
Noosa has made a name for its fresh produce and handicraft markets that take place around the region throughout the week. Head to the Eumundi Markets on Wednesday or Saturday where you can pick up locally-made artisan treasures, including handcrafted furniture, home wares, ceramics and fashion. Or visit the Sunday Noosa Farmers Market where you can shop for locally-sourced seasonal produce beneath the leafy gum trees at Noosaville’s AFL ground.
5. Soak Up The Sun And Surf
Surrounded by stunning stretches of sand, Noosa is the perfect destination to soak up the enviable Sunshine Coast lifestyle. Head to the family-friendly sands at the Main Beach, cast a fishing line to see what’s biting at Sunrise Beach or test your surfing skills at Castaways. There are numerous surf schools offering rentals and lessons, as well as kayaks for exploring the magnificent Noosa Everglades.
